This notion page is a work-in-progress; every now and then I’ll take some time to add documentation surrounding common CGI tasks and how to make sure your files are easy to read and can be picked up by other colleagues in an efficient way.

1.1 Gathering & importing required files

In every projects standardized folder structure in 01_INPUT you’ll find a folder 02_CGI

01_CAD Computer aided design: In this folder you’ll find 3D files from the client that are used for production and require importing within C4D; usually these are .STP files; be sure to use the following settings upon import!

****After this import have a quick look around your model to check for obvious artifacts such as holes, flipped triangles and so on. If you run into any artifacts notify your team members

02_MUS Make-up sheet: b

03_PGD Product graphic drawing: In this folder you’ll find documents that are used to indicate fonts, positioning of logo’s, texts and so on. They’ll almost always include the print colors (usually PANTONE brand colors) and in some cases will contain notes/remarks left by the client.

04_CIMA

No clue what this stands for actually, will get back to that one.. These are Maya files with the materials assigned to their respective meshes, usually they’ll also usually include projections/null objects that are used to guide logo & texts. These files can be exported as FBX from Maya into Cinema 4D. The few important settings for this are no-animation, no triangulation, smoothing groups & correct scale (usually default setting works, but check in C4D upon importing if the scale is correct for the product).
