Every week there are at least two moments planned in with one of the mediamanagers. The rushes and project are archived on separate disks, this way we can restore a project quickly and for most tweaks you don’t actually need all the rushes. It’s a good idea to always start with archiving the rushes, as those are the biggest bulk of data. While the rushes are copying, you can check the projects for finals etc.
All our projects are being archived to an A and a B disk. The A disk we keep at the office and the B disk at an external storage. Details of the external storage can be found in LastPass.
Copying is done with YoYotta, how to use it, read here:
To keep track of the archive proces we use the following list, which we explain below:
The list consists of a couple of elements, the first is the ‘to start’ section: This is filled in weekly by Martijn with projects and rushes that are ready for the archive.
Then we have the Archive in Progress section which is used by the Mediamanagers to keep track of the archive process.
This section has the projectname and information like the target drive and checkboxes. The idea is to fill out the list from left to right, so the checkboxes we check and only continue with the next one if the one on the left is check.
As a final step after deleting the rushes from the server, we have to manually delete the online backup on the backblaze website.
Deleting the files from Backblaze is permanent. So only after having archived the rushes to an A and B drive you can continue with this step.
